What are we really talking about?

Discussing a topic could bring improvement in many ways.
There could be new angles, opinions you get to know.

Discussions and even conversations also have a goal although this goal could be just having a good time together.
You can come up to the expectations if during the discussion or conversation, you expect and create the adequate goals for each phase of the discussion.
One simple list of phases: description, analysis of the problem, brainstorming, choosing a solution, summary, dividing tasks.
During a conversation you should have a break for yourself and consciously think of which phase you are in and what its goal is.
Evaluate participants and yourself if you are thinking based on these.
Practice will help reach better results, evaluate others faster and lead discussions in the right direction.
